Printed X banner on a lightweight X-frame

X Banners

X banners are the simple, low-cost way to put a printed display in a room. The graphic tensions across a lightweight X-frame using eyelets at each corner, which keeps it flat and readable, and the whole thing goes up in under a minute with no tools.

They pack into a light carry bag with a handle strap, which is why people buy several at once. Available in 600mm, 800mm and 1200mm widths for anything from a reception desk to an exhibition hall.

Should You Buy an X Banner or a Roller Banner?

This is the question worth answering before you spend anything, and the honest answer is that they suit different jobs.

An X banner is lighter, cheaper and simpler. There is no cassette and no spring mechanism, just a frame and a tensioned graphic, so there is less to go wrong and less to carry. That makes it the right choice when you need several displays at once, when the campaign is short, or when the budget will not stretch to a rack of roller banners.

A roller banner is the better long-term buy if you are taking one display to event after event. The graphic retracts into its own aluminium cassette between shows, which protects it, and the weighted base is more stable in a busy hall.

Plenty of exhibitors own both. A roller banner as the main display, and a couple of X banners to mark the edges of the stand or carry a promotional message. If you are assembling a kit you can carry in one trip, our guide to building a portable display kit puts X banners at the centre of it.

Choose Your Size

All three take the same tensioned X-frame. The size you need depends on how far away people will be standing when they read it.

X Banner 600mm Wide

A compact display for tight spaces such as reception desks, counters and point of sale areas. Best for directional signage and one focused message.

X Banner 800mm Wide

The most versatile size and the one most people want. A strong balance between visibility and footprint, suited to retail floors, exhibitions and promotional spaces.

X Banner 1200mm Wide

The large format option, for maximum impact in an open indoor space. Suits exhibition halls, conferences and high footfall areas where the display needs to read from a distance.

Printing and Artwork

Every X banner is printed in full colour to your own artwork. The graphic tensions across the frame using eyelets at each corner, which pulls it flat and keeps the finish smooth rather than rippled.

Send us your design and we will check it before anything goes to print. Once the artwork is approved the banners are produced quickly and supplied ready to install, and you can order replacement graphics later if the message or the branding changes without buying new frames. Our guide to supplying print-ready artwork covers what to send.

Building the Rest of the Stand

An X banner rarely works alone. Put a printed table cover on the trestle, a greeter stand at the front for conversations, and an exhibition stand behind you as the backdrop. Our trade show budget guide sets out what a full setup costs, and what to put on your exhibition stand covers what each banner should say.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an X banner and a roller banner?
An X banner is cheaper, lighter and simpler. The graphic tensions across a folding X-frame using corner eyelets, with no cassette and no spring mechanism. A roller banner retracts into its own aluminium base, which protects the graphic between events and gives a more stable, self-supporting display. Buy an X banner if you need several displays or the campaign is short. Buy a roller banner if one display is going to event after event.
What sizes do X banners come in?
We make them 600mm, 800mm and 1200mm wide. The 800mm is the most popular and suits most retail and exhibition uses. Go to 600mm for a counter or reception desk, and 1200mm when the display needs to be read across a large hall.
How quickly can an X banner be set up?
In under a minute, with no tools. The frame unfolds, the graphic hooks onto the four corners with its eyelets, and the tension holds it flat. One person can do it comfortably.
Can I change the graphic without buying a new frame?
Yes. Order replacement graphics and reuse the existing frame, which means a new campaign costs you the price of a print rather than a whole new display.
Can X banners be used outdoors?
X banners are designed for indoor use. The lightweight frame is not built to hold a graphic steady in wind. For outdoor displays, look at our printed banners or outdoor banner frames, which are made for the job.
What artwork do you need for an X banner?
Send us what you have and we will check it before printing. The design needs to work at full banner scale rather than at screen size, so we look at the resolution and the layout first and tell you if something will not reproduce cleanly. Our print-ready artwork guide explains what to supply.
